I believe the most beautiful parts of my pottery are the imperfections.
No, I’m not trying to mask mistakes with words, rather I’m focused on the one-off, handmade nature of my craft. Unlike mass produced, store bought pieces, each piece of my pottery is unique in it’s own way; subtle differences in shape, form, color, size, texture and purpose.
Exactly like all of us.
Elevating people is my life’s mission, and odd as it may seem, I try to express that in every piece I make. My desire is to understand and honor our collective history, acknowledge and truly see those around us, all while focusing on becoming a better human every day.
My work follows a century-old Japanese movement called ‘mingei’ which translates into the art of the people.
At its core, mingei honors the unheralded common craftsman who relentlessly pursued creations that are both functional and beautiful. These craftspeople left their fingerprints on their work, literally, creating the most perfect imperfections.
All of my work is meant to be used.
Please, eat your morning cereal from one of my bowls.
Place a bunch of fresh herbs in a small vase.
Yes, feed your family from a large platter.
Unheralded, common, beautiful.
Elevated.
